BARN Great Room
The February Monthly Speaker Program will host Scott Freeman and Cody Wayland from the Jefferson Timber Cooperative based in Port Townsend.
This unique homegrown cooperative was started by local small timber growers and sawyers who brainstormed ways to share kilns, planers, waste-handling equipment, dry storage, trucks, and other capital-intensive items that small businesses typically can’t afford on their own.
In January 2025, the group established an operating area encompassing the eastern part of the Olympic Peninsula, from Hamma Hamma to the Dungeness River watersheds. The work starts with growing their own native trees in sustainably managed, permanently protected forests on the Olympic Peninsula. The lumber stays locally and ends with beautiful products — from lumber and architectural wood to unique furniture for our customers’ homes and businesses.
Come and hear the stories of how and why this cooperative was started. The Jefferson Timber Cooperative is an example of how collective effort and ingenuity have benefited an entire community while preserving our beautiful natural environment and forests. It’s a real-life win/win success, as these Seattle Times and Jefferson County Beacon articles discuss.
We’ll meet Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10:30 AM in the Great Room.
Coffee and munchies provided. Everyone is welcome.
