Saturday, Nov. 8, 10:30 – 11:30 AM

Join us at BARN as we welcome Neil Miller, a master luthier whose craft combines woodworking artistry with musical excellence. Neil specializes in building stringed instruments using locally sourced woods, drawing on collaborative experiences with luthiers from his diverse geographic background — Indiana, Uganda, Michigan, Texas, Tanzania, and now the Pacific Northwest.

Program Highlights:

  • Live acoustic guitar performances featuring Neil’s handcrafted instruments.
  • Demonstrations and insights into the art of lutherie.
  • Performances by BARN students playing guitars they built in Neil’s recent workshop.
  • Student testimonials about the guitar-building journey.
  • Open Q&A and discussion.

Earlier this year, Neil and Doug Salot led an exceptional guitar-building course at BARN, where five students crafted beautiful, professional-quality instruments using Indian rosewood, maple, cherry, and mango wood. These student luthiers will share their experiences and perform on their handmade guitars during the presentation.

Neil, a member of the Guild of American Luthiers, operates his studio in Tacoma where he creates custom instruments and offers repairs and restorations.

Coming Soon: Neil will be teaching a new course at BARN on building your own dreadnought guitar, modeled after the legendary Martin D-28 (see below). Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from a master craftsman who brings both technical expertise and teaching excellence to this specialized woodworking art.
