Let nature inspire you this fall at the 150-acre Bloedel Reserve.

Join us for Nature and Creativity Retreat from 1 to 5 pm on Sept. 12. You’ll be nourished through guided time on the land, poetry, a few short meditations, writing prompts, and free-writes. You’ll also have time to work quietly on whatever individual creative projects (manuscripts, poetry, collages, paintings, etc.) you bring with you.

Youth Maker Mondays Return!

Classes start Oct. 2

Makers age 8 to 18 will enjoy BARN’s after-school youth classes on everything from welding and cooking to sewing and glass work. Classes run for three weeks from 2:30 to 5 pm, lining up with the Bainbridge Island School District’s early release days.

Sewing: Basic Flat Roman Shade Construction

Saturday, Sept. 23, 10 am – 3 pm

Roman shades are a practical and versatile addition to any décor. They can be sheer, lined for more privacy, lined for blackout, or interlined with flannel for insulation.

You’ll construct a sample-size shade using techniques that can apply to many shade style variations. Learn how to measure your own windows for shades and methods for installing them. You’ll also discuss fabrics and linings appropriate for different shade styles.

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding is generally recognized as the welding technique of choice for artisans working with more exotic materials including aluminum and stainless steel.

TIG welding is more difficult to learn than Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding since it requires greater hand/eye coordination and the simultaneous use of both hands and a foot (controlling the amperage pedal).
