I’m pleased to begin in my new role as your BARN Fiber Arts Studio lead in 2026. I joined BARN in 2021 following my retirement from a 40-year career as an occupational therapist. I immediately gravitated to the Fiber Arts Studio as my love for fiber began at a young age with sewing, crochet, and knitting.
I started volunteering immediately after joining BARN by helping to set up cabinets for seven sewing machines and the embroidery machine that BARN had purchased in 2021. I learned how to use the embroidery machine and began teaching the orientations to others, a role I’ve continued for over four years. I’ve also been responsible for maintaining all our sewing, embroidery, and serger machines since 2021.
The Fiber Arts Studio encompasses five distinct disciplines: weaving, sewing, needlework, basketry, and surface design. Each area is headed up by talented volunteers who help coordinate classes and support their specialty. I am eternally grateful for their expertise and support and will always have their backs. I could not do this job without them.
The Fiber Arts Studio has brought me immense joy over the last five years, as I’ve learned and continue to learn from the wonderful people in this studio. I love the friendships and community that are cultivated by being present at BARN.
My vision is to create an open and welcoming environment for all BARN members and the broader community. We’re all here to pursue our creative passions, support one another, and have fun!
