Learn to Sew: Classes Coming Up in Fiber
Sew Simple: Drawstring Bags
Tuesday, Sept. 1, 6 – 9 PM: You’ll sew two different drawstring bags in one sitting: one finished with a clean French seam and one fully lined. Along the way, you’ll get comfortable with tools like rotary cutters and seam rippers, plus a few sewing machine tricks that make every project after this one easier.
Practical Patching
Tuesday, Sept. 22, 6 – 9 PM: Give your favorite worn clothes a second life. You’ll explore patching materials, tools, and sewing machine tricks built for repair work, then practice on real examples until it clicks.
Create a Fabric Art Bowl
Saturday, Oct. 17, 9 AM – 4 PM: In this hands-on class, you’ll construct a three-dimensional, 15-inch-square fabric bowl using either the instructor’s curated fabrics or your own. You’ll learn to layer, stitch, and shape textile panels into a freestanding form that can stand on its own or be embellished afterward.
Beginning Needlepoint
Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1 – 4 PM: Learn seven needlepoint stitches and put them to work right away on a small sampler you’ll start in class. It’s a relaxing, portable craft, perfect if you’re looking for something new to pick up this fall.
Beginning Wool Quilting and Basic Embroidery
4 meetings, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8: Instructor Cleo leads you into the colorful world of wool quilting, adding embroidery details that give each piece depth and a personal touch. This four-meeting series is a great entry point, whether you’re new to quilting or just new to working in wool.
Weaving: Introduction to Tapestry Weaving
2 meetings, beginning Friday, Sept. 4: Curious about tapestry weaving? This two-meeting introduction covers the basics as you weave a small tapestry from start to finish, no experience necessary.
