BARN volunteers spent Tuesday afternoon in the Culinary Arts Studio, chopping, stirring, and preparing an impressive 220 side dishes to bring warmth and nourishment to seniors and community members as part of the Giving Thanks Community Meal coordinated by Island Volunteer Caregivers and other local nonprofits.
The project, which began in 2020, aims to provide a festive holiday meal to those in need. With the support of volunteers, local businesses, and organizations, the program has grown yearly, delivering meals to seniors, those facing food insecurity, and others in the community who may not have family nearby.
This year, in addition to the meal deliveries, there will also be a dine-in option at Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Parish. Whether it’s a delivered meal or one shared at the table, the goal is the same: to spread joy and a sense of belonging during the holiday season.
The project is a perfect example of what can happen when our community comes together. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, partners like Island Volunteer Caregivers, supporters like Rotary, Town & Country Market, local restaurants, and organizations like BARN, Bainbridge Island is making sure that everyone—whether they’re dining in or receiving a meal at home—can enjoy a little extra holiday warmth this season.
