Youth at BARN
BARN provides an empowering environment where youth can explore new creative outlets. Unless otherwise specified, all BARN classes are open to ages 14 and up. We also have programs specifically for youth, such as Teen Nights, Summer at BARN, and after-school classes. Ages are noted in the activity description.
Summer at BARN
We love having kids and teens at BARN for our summer programs on Bainbridge Island! Find everything from sewing and welding to jewelry-making, robotics, and woodworking.
More Ways to Get Involved
- Community Service: Get involved in any of the community service projects at BARN.
- Volunteering: Reach out to the Youth Coordinator for available volunteering opportunities.
- Partnerships: We love to chat with representatives of school, youth, and community groups about how to connect our programs.
- Independent Studies/Mentorships: If you are interested in Independent Studies through your high school, contact your school counselor and the studio lead.

Handwork 2027 Registration Underway
BARN members can now register for Handwork Week, with general registration set to open Oct. 1. Handwork returns to BARN Aril 12-16, 2027. This five-day immersion in craft is guided by accomplished instructors. You and fellow makers will experience deep, hands-on learning.
October Sparks Fly in Metal-Fab
October is bringing sparks, literal and otherwise, to the Metal Fabrication Studio! You can channel your inner blacksmith with two Halloween-ready forge projects, sharpen precision skills in the machine shop, or work your way up the welding ladder from fundamentals to a confident MIG #2. Whether you're picking up a torch for the first time or leveling up existing skills, there's a project with your name on it.Plus MIG welding, machine shop skills, and more in the shop this month
Handwork Tickets on Their Way
Tech Lab access levels up for members. Handwork Week tickets are almost here. Scary tales will be told. And REFRACT is bringing a full weekend of glass art to BARN, complete with an exhibition, a documentary screening, and live demos. There's a lot going on in October!
REFRACT at BARN Includes Exhibit, Screening, Demos
This year’s REFRACT celebration turns the Glass Arts Studio into both an exhibition space and a gathering place. Events include a new exhibition in the Commons, a social hour and documentary screening, and a day of demonstrations. Refract is a regional festival celebrating the Pacific Northwest's vibrant glass art community Oct. 15-18.
