Eagle Scout Project by Rydley Strong
What do you get when a team of Scouts, local youth groups, and Rydley Strong’s friends and family come together? A beautiful 千羽鶴, senbazuru titled One Thousand Cranes for Hope. Rydley’s community-wide Eagle Scout project found inspiration from the Japanese legend of folding 1,000 cranes for hope, healing, and making wishes come true. After he and many others spent countless hours carefully folding colorful cranes, Rydley needed help building a display. That’s where BARN stepped in. Alongside Rydley, BARN volunteers in the Woodworking Studio built a custom wooden shadow box to display the colorful cranes. In the summer of 2021, the art display found a home in the Olympic Educational Service District’s Early Learning Department, which serves low-income families. The project was Rydley’s gift to the community and a symbol of hope.
