4 meetings, beginning Saturday, Oct. 10, 10 AM – 12:30 PM: Explore the joys of oil painting without a drop of stinky solvent. This water-soluble approach is safe to have around anyone with sensitivities, and it’s the studio’s first time offering this format. Seats are limited, so don’t wait to sign up.

Pen & Ink Challenge

A Nod to Inktober

Tuesday, Oct. 27, 10 – 11:30 AM during Watercolor Open Studio

This October, we’re taking inspiration from Inktober, the worldwide challenge that has artists drawing in ink all month long. We’re not following the official prompts, at least not yet, but Inktober is exactly what got us thinking about this celebration. We’d love to see it grow year after year. Here’s how it works: dust off your fountain pen, or whatever pen you love, and create a Halloween-themed pen-and-ink piece on your own time. Think skulls, ravens, witches, fall leaves, rotting trees, candy: anything that says Halloween to you. Then bring your finished piece to BARN for a reveal and celebration. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at our Watercolor Open Studio. No registration needed; just bring your finished piece and your Halloween spirit. We’ll have treats on hand to celebrate.

Introduction to Procreate: Digital Drawing

3 meetings, beginning Saturday, Oct. 17, 1 – 4:30 PM | $65 member / $81 guest: Learn to create digital art on the go with Apple’s Procreate app. Follow along on your own iPad as you pick up the interface, brushes, layers, and more, no prior Procreate experience needed. Bring your own iPad with the Procreate app loaded (iOS 16.3 or later). Ages 14 and up.

Soft Pastel: Fall Harvest Still Life

Sunday, Sept. 20, 1 – 4 PM: Create a still life in this fun, approachable introduction to soft pastels. A relaxed way to explore a new medium, no experience needed.

Soft Pastel: Into the Wild

Thursday, Sept. 24, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Take your soft pastels outdoors (in spirit) with a wildlife-inspired composition. A great next step after Fall Harvest Still Life, or a fun class on its own.

Make Your Own Sketchbook

Thursday, Oct. 15, 10 AM – 4 PM: Build your own sketchbook, complete with blank pages and a hard cover, ready to fill with your next batch of drawings.

Crazy Creativity: Mixed-Media Collage

Monday, Oct. 26, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Layer paper, paint, and found materials into a one-of-a-kind mixed-media collage. A playful class for anyone who loves to experiment.
