Media Arts Studio’s own Programming Coordinator JP Powell is making their festival debut at the second annual Bainbridge Island Film Festival this weekend with their delightful animated short film “Afternoon Snack” – and you won’t want to miss it!
Originally created as their thesis film for a B.A. in Animation at Loyola Marymount University, Powell’s five-minute animated adventure follows Haco, whose simple quest for the perfect snack turns into an unexpected battle of wits with a mischievous caterpillar. With original music by Jackson Forte, this charming 2D animated short promises to be a treat for audiences of all ages.
“Afternoon Snack” will be featured in the Kitsap County Shorts collection, screening:
- Friday, November 8th at 7:15 PM (Lynwood Theatre)
- Saturday, November 9th at 5:00 PM (Island Center Hall)
This marks an exciting milestone for Powell, as it represents their film’s first festival screening in what promises to be an exciting festival run. The selection is particularly meaningful as it comes as part of BIFF’s expanded second year, which features an impressive lineup of independent films from both local and international filmmakers.
This year’s festival, running Nov. 7-10, showcases 18 feature films alongside numerous shorts and documentaries across multiple venues, including the historic Lynwood Theatre, Bainbridge Cinemas, and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. The festival’s growth reflects the island’s vibrant arts community and its increasing importance as a cultural hub for independent cinema in the Pacific Northwest.
Don’t miss your chance to support our talented colleague and experience the magic of “Afternoon Snack” on the big screen! Tickets and full festival information are available at bifilmfest.org.
