Just when you thought those short, dark, and wet days would be here forever, you may have noticed it was still light at 5:30 PM the other day, and daffodils are beginning to bloom! Spring is on the way, and so are many happenings in the Glass Arts Studio.
Ready to Level Up? Combining Leaded Glass and Copper Foil
If you’ve completed A-Z of Stained Glass or Copper Foil Stained Glass and have been wondering “what’s next?”— this one’s for you. Starting Wednesday, March 4, instructor Diane Bonciolini will lead a five-session, intermediate class where you’ll design and build a roughly 20-inch-square window that merges the structural strength of leaded glass with the fine detail of copper foil. You’ll work with beveled glass elements, glass jewels, rocks, beach glass, and any special pieces you bring from home. Come to the first session with three design sketches and be ready to create something truly unique.
Combining Leaded Glass and Copper Foil meets Wednesdays, 12:30 – 3:30 PM, through April 1. Member tuition is $524, and guest tuition is $642, with all materials included. Plan on using Open Studio time between sessions to stay on track. An optional sixth session is available if you need extra time to finish. Learn more >
We want to hear from you: Classes like this reflect a growing interest in intermediate and advanced stained glass work. Are there other next-level techniques you’d love to explore — dimensional pieces, advanced panel design, kiln work combined with traditional methods? Let us know at glass.programming@bainbridgebarn.org. Your input helps us shape future offerings that keep your skills growing.
Birds of a Feather …
That is BARN’s theme for this year’s Refract festival of glass, Oct. 15–18. We’re still looking for an individual to organize and lead the team in planning this event. The game plan is well laid out with plenty of folks to guide you and help. If you think you might be interested, please contact Stephanie or me at glass.programming@bainbridgebarn.org.
We love BARN volunteers!
The Glass Arts Studio will participate in April’s Volunteer Appreciation by offering several classes. Thank you, glass instructors Jodi, Constance, Grae, Cynthia, Barbara, and Donna, for donating your time and sharing your love of glass! If anyone else would like to volunteer to teach a class, the deadline is Feb. 23. Contact programming for a date!
Speaking of awesome volunteers, special thanks to Donna, Molly, Nancy, Sally, Grace, and Nina for coming out to clean and reorganize in the studio last Sunday. Together they re-organized and tidied the drawers by the sink, deep vacuumed and dusted, scrubbed the sink and the counters nearby, tidied the wet room, wet mopped the shelves and the floor in the kiln room, refilled stock supply bottles, purged old documents from the filing cabinet and the kiln request form binders, cleaned the nozzles of the torches, and tightened the wheels on the nippers. All of this in less than two hours! It’s incredible what a team can accomplish. Go Glass!
First Quarter Glass Social
The next social has been rescheduled for 4 – 6 PM Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Commons. Please join us for a creative activity led by Stephanie. Bring an appetizer to share if you can. Bring your own beverage.
Attention, first-time Open Studio attendees
We have a new handout to help you get started working independently in the Glass Arts Studio. Welcome aboard!
Countdown to Handwork
Just a couple of months to go until this celebration of American craft! We can’t wait to welcome Richard Parrish!
If you have questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me at glass.lead@bainbridgebarn.org. In the meantime, check out the catalog often for new class offerings.
