Saturday, Sept. 13, 11:30 AM – 1 PM

The September Woodworkers’ Monthly Speaker Program will be a field trip to the Port Townsend School of Woodworking (PTSW). This nationally recognized school is located at the historical Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. This is an opportunity to explore and expand your knowledge of one of the many resources available to woodworkers in the Pacific Northwest.

Come meet fellow woodworker Raphael Berrios, PTSW program coordinator, and others who will provide us with an overview of the school, its history, and its founders, John Marckworth, Tim Lawson, and Jim Tolpin. We also will observe a Windsor Chair class in progress. The world is a better place with more humble woodworkers providing a second life to the beautiful trees of our forests and sharing the joy of exquisite joinery. Time to geek out!

New SawStop Table Saw Now in Operation!

We’re excited to announce that our new SawStop table saw is now up and running! Special thanks to Marvin and all the volunteers who helped with the assembly. This upgrade will add much-needed reliability to our studio operations.

Important reminder: When changing blades, there’s no need to over-tighten the blade hold-down nut. The blade rotates in a direction that naturally tightens the nut during operation.

Questions about any of these updates? Don’t hesitate to reach out.

Night at BARN: Oct. 4

Mark your calendars! The annual Night at BARN fundraiser is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 4, and we need your help to make it a success.

We’re organizing a wood gallery for the event, and we want to feature pieces created by our talented members. Contact Marianne Spur for details.

Since food will be served from our machine room, we have some important schedule changes:

Friday, Oct. 3

9 AM – 12 PM: Wood Open Studio (regular hours).

12 – 3 PM: Deep cleaning of the studio. We encourage ALL wood members to pitch in!

3 – 6 PM: Wood gallery item drop-off in the bench room.

Saturday, Oct. 4: The studio will be CLOSED.

Wood Sale Set for Nov. 2

Come to the Woodworking Studio’s Annual Wood Sale, 10 AM to noon on Nov. 2. It’s a great opportunity to stock up on different species of wood for holiday projects.

This will be the first chance to purchase red oak slabs from a tree that once stood by the Bainbridge Historical Museum. The tree was felled last spring after becoming too unsteady.

David Kotz, who used to run the Coyote Woodworks sawmill on Bainbridge Island, will bring a truckload of select pieces for sale, as will Brent Herrick, who operates a local sawmill.

BARN members can also bring in wood for sale. Please contact Wayne at wwchang@mac.com for more details regarding reserving space and fees. Learn more.
