Are you new to the Jewelry and Fine Metals Studio? Do you have experience making jewelry? If you do, having a Skills Assessment may help you gain access to Open Studio and allow you to register for classes with prerequisites. A Skills Assessment is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your proficiency with the tools and processes used in BARN’s Jewelry and Fine Metals Studio.
If you think you have these skills, complete the form below to schedule an assessment. If you have questions, please email Jewelry.Programming@bainbridgebarn.org.
The fee for an assessment is $72 for BARN Members or $90 for guests.
What to Expect During Your Assessment
At the start of your assessment, you’ll show your recent work and talk about the tools and processes you used to create your pieces. Be sure to bring samples of your recently-made jewelry and/or metal work that show your skills.
- You will be shown where tools and materials are located in the studio so that you can set up your demos.
- You will be asked to verbally explain the steps you are doing as well as demonstrate proper use of the tools and equipment.
- You will be asked to complete samples to showcase your understanding of the safe and proper use of tools.
- Please be prepared to set up and tear down your workspace for all the skills you demonstrate.
Receiving Your Skills Card
- If you meet the skill and safety requirements for the use of specific equipment during the assessment, you will receive a Skills Card, which identifies the tools and equipment you can use during Open Studio.
- If it is decided that you need a refresher class, you must successfully complete that class before receiving a Skills Card and gaining access to Open Studio.
