BARN Code of Conduct
Adopted March 20, 2014, Reviewed: June 26, 2025
Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network’s (BARN) mission is to grow and inspire a creative community through craft, learning, and service.
The core values that guide our mission and actions are:
- Craft: Hands-on creativity and innovation bring joy, serve needs, and inspire action.
- Inclusivity: It is essential to provide a safe and welcoming space for all within the BARN community.
- Volunteerism & Service: Participants apply their skills to solve problems, share knowledge, and respond to needs at BARN and in the community at large.
- Stewardship: Honesty and care form the basis of relationships and activities at BARN.
To uphold those values, all users of or visitors to BARN’s facility, property, or communications platforms agree to:
Act with Respect & Inclusivity
- We treat all BARN users, volunteers, visitors, and staff respectfully and kindly.
- We value diverse perspectives and experiences as rich sources of collective wisdom and work together to dismantle barriers, as detailed in BARN’s Inclusion Policy.
- We provide a safe environment for youth and vulnerable adults to participate in BARN programs. For details, visit the Youth and Vulnerable Adult Policy.
- We safeguard the data of others. BARN staff, volunteers, and users with access to personal contact information of fellow participants do not share or use it without the participant’s permission.
- We prioritize accessibility. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to help everyone participate.
- Service dogs are welcome in BARN’s facility, except in the Culinary Arts Studio, as prohibited by state law. Please leave other animals at home.
Maintain Healthy Communication & Positive Behavior
- We create a welcoming environment by being mindful of our language and behavior, ensuring our actions don’t impede others’ use of BARN spaces or digital platforms.
- Disruptive, inappropriate, threatening, abusive, or unsafe behavior is not allowed.
- Harassment, bullying, and hate speech are not tolerated. The wearing or display of hate symbols and derogatory or unwelcoming messages is prohibited.
Create a Welcoming Facility for All
- We maintain BARN as a community gathering place.
- BARN facilities and grounds are smoke-free and drug-free.
- Firearms in operable condition are not allowed at BARN. 3D printing of firearms or firearm components is strictly prohibited. Non-3D printed firearm components may be worked on in the facility at the discretion of the Executive Director or their designee.
- We refrain from using BARN facilities or equipment under the influence of drugs or alcohol. While BARN-hosted events may involve alcohol, everyday activities will not. See the Alcohol Policy for details.
Steward Our Environment
- We work to minimize harmful environmental impacts, as outlined in the Environmental Stewardship Policy.
- We use toxic materials safely and dispose of them properly, as specified in BARN’s Waste Disposal Policy.
To report a violation of this Code of Conduct or other concerns, submit an Incident Report to the Executive Director. That report will be addressed under the Incident Resolution Policy and/or the Youth and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy.
