Volunteers from BARN’s Woodworking & Small Boatbuilding and Metal Fabrication studios have been sprucing up the building’s common areas.

You may have noticed the beautiful new “barn doors” protecting the storage shelving downstairs. These six impressive doors each weigh 115  pounds and are supported by a “Unistrut” industrial metal hanging system.

The project was a collaboration between the facilities committee and volunteers from the wood and metal studios, including Marvin Crosland, Dave Roe, David Grant, Mike MorganJeff Williams, and Henry Sharpe.

The doors themselves are works of art, made of prefinished maple plywood with striking red accents crafted from padauk wood. The padauk has been sealed with lacquer to preserve its vibrant red color.

Next up: New, narrower tables for the Commons that will allow for more flexible configurations to accommodate different uses. We’re excited to see these improvements enhancing our shared spaces and look forward to everyone enjoying them soon.
