The Print & Book Arts Studio keeps the presses rolling this October, with letterpress, printmaking, and bookbinding classes on the calendar. A highlight is a new workshop with Dana Harris Seeger, a Poulsbo artist who teaches and exhibits internationally.

Whether you want to try monoprinting for the first time or build your own hardcover book from scratch, there’s a spot at the table for you. Come ink up, fold, stitch, and print your way into fall!

Reduction Linocut Printmaking with Dana Harris Seeger

2 sessions beginning Tuesday, Oct. 20, 10 AM – 3 PM: Take your printmaking further with returning instructor Dana Harris Seeger in this beginner-to-intermediate workshop on reduction linocut. You’ll carve a single Battleship linoleum block in stages, printing a new color each time you carve more away, so you can build a multi-color image without needing a separate block for every hue. Bring your design ideas and a sack lunch; all your prints and carved blocks go home with you at the end of the day.

Introduction to Printmaking

4 meetings, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 7, 5:30 – 7:30 PM: Get hands-on with three foundational printmaking techniques over four supportive sessions, then choose your favorite to focus on for the final class. It’s a solid on-ramp if you’ve never picked up a brayer before.

Letterpress Essentials: Wood Type

Friday, Oct. 23, 1 – 4 PM: Set type by hand using the studio’s wood type, proof presses, and Vandercook proof press. You’ll come away with the core letterpress skills to keep printing on your own.

Intaglio Monoprinting

Thursday, Nov. 12, 10 AM – 4 PM: Create drypoint plates and layer multiple colors through monoprint painting. A great next step once you’re comfortable with basic printmaking.

Make a Hand-Sewn Hardcover Book

2 meetings, beginning Saturday, Nov. 14, 10:30 AM – 2 PM: Learn the fundamentals of handmade book design and construction as you build your own hardcover book with a sewn binding. No experience necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to try.
