On any given day, you’ll find Linda Sohlberg in Metal Fabrication bending sheet metal into sculptural or practical shapes, or down in the Woodshop turning a block of spalted birch into a live-edge bowl. An architect by trade, Linda is also a prolific barnmaker and volunteer.
Most recently, Linda chose to “illustrate” a poem for Ars Poetica with one of her square bowls (below). She needed to fabricate individual laser cut letters, so she took
an introductory ETA class for their laser cutter, and then attended an ETA open studio to complete the project. She discovered that one can cut or engrave quite a few various materials, and looks forward to exploring this media.
When BARN gifted volunteers with a BARN class, Linda wanted to learn glass fusing & slumping. Constance Ducar of the Glass Studio kindly volunteered to teach a class just for volunteers. Now Linda looks forward to incorporating glass with her wood turning & sculpting.
What is she excited about next? “It’s a long list!!! BARN as an entity is exciting: No matter what you want to do, or what question you may have, someone at BARN has the answer,” Linda said. “BARN is a unique resource on so many levels!”
